India built one of the world’s largest digital-access stories. Cheap data, cheap phones, and Indic-language content brought hundreds of millions online. The infrastructure was built for connection. What grew on top of it was largely an attention-extraction economy: feeds, reels, games, and infinite scroll designed to capture time rather than cultivate it.
This series is an attempt to look at that inversion clearly, without shaming individuals or pretending the problem will solve itself. It asks what India—and any country moving through the same transition—stands to lose if the attention economy keeps winning, and what becomes possible if the same tools are turned toward learning, creation, and civic problem-solving.
